Concepts of Voiced and Unvoiced Sounds

Voiced sounds
These are sounds that are produced by the vibration of the vocal cords. In English, examples of voiced consonants include /b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /z/, and /ʒ/. The presence of this vibration is what characterizes voiced sounds.

Voiceless sounds
On the other hand, voiceless sounds are produced without the vibration of the vocal cords, examples of voiceless consonants in English are /p/, /t/, /k/, /f/, /s/, and /ʃ/. In these cases, air passes through the vocal cavity without the vocal cords vibrating.
